My name is Martin Hawkins and I am a football (soccer) writer. I have followed the game for almost my entire life, starting when I was a child during the 1994 World Cup.
After that, I eagerly awaited the formation of Major League Soccer here in my native United States. Since I am from the suburbs of New York City, my first club was Metrostars. For those of you familiar with the game in America, you will know they are not called that anymore. In 2007, Phil Anschutz sold the team to the Red Bull corporation and they became the New York Red Bulls. And, I became an Arsenal fan.
Since 2007, my love for the sport and for Arsenal FC has only grown. With each passing season, and World Cup, I have become more and more obsessed with the beautiful game.
So, I founded The Stateside Gooner in June 2017 with the hope of reaching out and connecting with fellow American Arsenal fans, as well as grow my own skills as a sports writer. With this website, I will try to give a blend of news, rumors and opinion, as well as try and create some content for newer fans.
Like many American fans, I know what it’s like to not have a fellow Gooner (or even fan of the game!) around to discuss and vent about the latest action. Feel free to leave all your thoughts in the comments section and maybe we can create a great new community of American Gooners!
Thanks very much and I hope you enjoy,
P.S. If you like what you read, I am also an editor and contributor at Lastwordonfootball.com and Arsenalfootball.co, so make sure to follow them for more great content relating not just to Arsenal, but the entire world of football!
